About FIRST
FIRST is a global robotics community that prepares young people for the future. How they do this is what makes them stand out from the rest. First they offer programs as young as four years old! Second, they have create two terms that sum up what FIRST stands for.
Gracious Professionalism® is part of the ethos of FIRST. It’s a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. Through Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain coexist. Participants compete intensely while treating each other with respect and empathy. There is no trash talking, nor disingenuous platitudes. Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended.
Coopertition® fosters innovation by promoting unqualified kindness and respect in the face of intense competition. At FIRST, Coopertition means that teams help and cooperate with each other, even as they compete. It’s about learning from teammates, teaching others, collaborating with mentors, managing and being managed. Coopertition embodies the spirit of competing while assisting and enabling others whenever possible.

About Us
We are a not-for-profit community robotics team for students aged 13 to 18 years old who design and build 125-pound robots and use them to compete within the First Robotics Competitions (“FRC”). Our current team members range from grades 9 to grade 12. We also have two student mentors that attend college/university. Our team welcomes anyone and everyone as long as they come with enthusiasm, maturity and commitment!
We have team members that have all sorts of talents. Some members build the robot, some code the robot, others love the social media aspect, while some assist with the fundraising and sponsorship.
Payload was created in the fall of 2023 and got their feet wet (with only two members and two mentors) when they were invited to their first event, the STEMley Cup. Hosted by two FRC Teams, Makeshift and Celt-X, the team learned what the FRC community was really about. The team grew with members from two local high schools. Not knowing each other, the team bonded, built a robot and competed in the 2024 Crescendo FRC Season.
